aniligital music is back at it with anthony mansfield and tal m. klein and their evil ways! building upon the successes of their previous collaborations, the villainous duo raises the stakes and take things deeper with this enigmatically titled three tracker. ciento ocho is spanish for 108, the tempo of the first track on the ep. a creepy crawly builder with 8-bit roots that culminate in a huge funk breakdown with an insidious bass hook (if you have any doubt,just fast forward 3 minutes into the track) next up is desayuno en timpanis which we think means breakfast at timpanis in spanish. needless to say this ones heavy on the percussive elements, including of course lots and lots of timpani drums. desayuno en timpanis gets going pretty quickly and doesnt let up. check the flanged upright bass breakdown for extra bigness! purely non-stop huge sound system busting dancefloor action. speaking of floor fillers, have we shown you our tiger bomb? bomba de tigre is the definitely the deepest track on the ep, but lest anthony and tal rest on the laurels of their 808 kicks and 303 basslines, this tigre is a stalking beast that explodes in a vicious classic house attack!

fresh 2010 repress !! historia y violencia is a new project exploring the hispanic roots of santiago salazar (dj s2) and j. mendez (silent servant). both producers dissect their latin upbringings as a cinematic theme to create snapshots of the day-to-day blood and sweat that has shaped them as individuals. the sound takes cue from detroit, berlin and chicago to create classic, deep dancefloor tracks. santiago salazar started djing in the early 90s inspired by mix tapes his brother was bringing back from the gay underground scene in los angeles. his style has always been a mixture of house and techno. after moving to detroit, santiago began his music training with mike banks, label founder of underground resistance. he is also half of the duo ican (ican productions / planet e) who have been responsible for some killer techno releases. the central american born j. mendez cut his teeth as jasper in the late 90s/early 2000s, running the california-based cytrax label. a veteran dj from the age of 16, he has performed worldwide in clubs from berlin to osaka. along with technical wizards kit clayton and sutekh, he helped shed light on the small but influential minimal techno scene on the west coast. a chance meeting with karl oconnor in 1999 established a friendship that would later open the door to the sandwell district label in 2006. silent servants sound is a reinterpretation of early 80s post-punk electronics, paired with the deep, metallic sounds of basic channel and downwards.

the ep kicks off with the title track >we rock non-stop<. tight kick drums layered with pitched 808 subs set the basis of the track. chopped up machine and voice samples are then layered with smooth pads and delays to complete the track. the second track of the ep >solvent abuse< sees sync 24 sticking to his dark roots. distorted vocals, haunting pads, trippy sequences and dirty bass combined with rolling beats and subs!
the reverse side of the 12 inch is slightly deeper, techy affair. >chosen module< is a spacious wash of delays and pads mixed with robotic bass and crisp round beats. the final track >marios mushroom< carries on the spaced out trippy theme of the side with more spooky pads, bubbly bass lines and hypnotic rhythms.

marco passarani has done the honours on the flip side. a workaholic from the eternal city of rome, marco is the linchpin of the italian techno scene. he produces under the aliases js pool, monomorph and ambit 3 for the labels skam, hymen, clone and peacefrog, and also runs his own labels plasmek, pigna and nature records marcos >fall into me< remix is unmistakably influenced by hiscarefully nurtured detroit roots. however, he employs these stylistic elements very discreetly, retains beats, melody and vocals in his arrangement, takes out a little of the decorative padding from the album, then finally hits us with a wonderful, trancey eight-tone sequence to send us into the realm of dancefloor dreams for ever.

tonbaumeister’s love for electronic music roots deep in the late eighties when he got his first computer, a commodore c-64, and when he instantly fell for the distinctive sounds of its sid chip. always driven by this passion he since then devoted himself to producing electronic music on various computing platforms and with multiple different programs to discover and soon constantly reinvent his own style. growing up in hessen, in the very heart of germany, he was deeply influenced by the endlessly evolving styles of house music and techno, which shaped the face of the vibrant club culture in cities like frankfurt and kassel. although tonbaumeister’s style might prematurely be declared as house music, the diversity of his productions makes it almost impossible to put them in a box and label them. his energetic tracks range from straight house to tech house to almost dark technoid characteristics, but suddenly one finds oneself surpr ised by the aforementioned sounds of late eighties computer games embedded in a psychedelic landscape with rough sawtoothy baselines. as hard as it is to pin down his production style, it is even harder to label his dj sets, which, as well as his productions, constantly evolve and morph while mirroring all of tonbaumeister’s influences. since 1999 he developed a passion for djing and he has had the chance to transport his enthusiasm into a number of clubs, infecting many clubbers with his verve. at the moment he is about to launch his own label subclinical

jesper dahlback is one of swedens leading djs/ producers with a lengthy back catalogue to his name, including co-production on two tiga albums, the hugg and pepp project with cousin john dahlback, and remixes for the likes of rex the dog, zoo brazil, arnaud rebotini of black strobe, thomas p heckman, robyn, the knife, and depeche mode. jesper has music in his genes, but it was the musical movements in detroit, berlin and london that inspired him to start producing techno, back in 1991 in his bedroom studio. completely hooked, by 1993 he d formed the stockholm-based globe studios together with peter benisch and adam beyer (following a chance meeting on the train to love parade?) and has worked there ever since. in 1996 jesper started the imprint, blank, mainly for his own material, and simultaneously launched joint venture dk with thomas krome - one of the first labels in sweden with a techno house crossover approach! in addition to making music for various techno labels around the world and working with planet rhythm, jesper met up with swiss-born stephan grieder who had just started the svek label. the duo started to experiment with different sounds, drawing on house musics roots, utilising vocals and acoustic instruments. jesper now describes his sound as >ranging between the analogue sounds of the roland sh101 and the precision mathematics of my computer. i m a researcher and developer of unheard sounds! since the founding of globe studios, i have always been looking for new ways to bend the rules and test the unknown. when i dj, i just play my own productions blending old classics with new unreleased demos.< a producer first and foremost, jespers dj dates find him weaving a soundscape of his productions, remixes and collaborations with new material at every gig, as well as musical elements and sounds worked through the set. one of his favourite current ventures is his part in jori hulkkonens acid symphony orchestra.

ricardo jefferson is a producer and dj based in manchester, england. the four tracks on this ep demonstrate a distinctive style. the roots of his sound are in funk, disco, space rock, prog rock, but he has melded them into a sound that is more than just the sum of these elements. this is funky, bass-heavy, trippy techno for the dance floor. a1 a brutal truth. this is a big tune that builds relentlessly. the track has an inclusive, celebrational, feel which simply invites everyone to lose it on the dance floor. 124bpm. a2 persons unknown. this tune doesn t have the relentless build of a brutal truth. instead, this is a tune to drop when everyone on the dancefloor is in the zone and locked into the groove. a finely crafted trip created with multiple delays skittering around the sound field, anchored by the funky bass heavy groove. 123 bpm. b1 the egg part one. a track employing a tight kick drum of differing weights to propel the groove, overlayed with a circular keyboard motif. on the off-beat, add the processed sound of someone hitting a metal sheet, and viola! - one aggressively funky dance floor bomb! 123 bpm. b2 god of the machine. this track has a simple 4x4 kick and handclap pattern pinning down a delicious oscillating bass line, under a classic descending four chord circular chord progression. off kilter ride cymbals give the track its backbone, and fluidity. ricocheting handclap delays add dimension. sly stone would be proud of this groove. now get on the dance floor and strut your stuff! 119 bpm. the cover shows a still image from the music video a brutal truth directed by ricardo jefferson and laura lee.

two more tracks from the much anticipated italoboyz full length cd >bla bla bla<. those of you familiar with italoboyz music will be aware of its roots in the fusion of organic with electronic sounds and the collision of genres as varied as jazz, opera and folk with what we traditionally know as house and techno. >techno tower< and >chinese< are a real testament to the italoboyz musical roots and will surely turn some heads on the dancefloor.
